Sport Science – Year 9 & 10 Course Overview
 
The Sport Science course is designed as a foundational pathway into General and ATAR Physical Education Studies. Offered to students in Years 9 and 10, the course includes one practical and one theory lesson per week, allowing students to explore key concepts in both applied and academic settings.
 
This course introduces students to core areas such as:
  • Functional Anatomy
  • Biomechanics
  • Motor Learning and Coaching
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Developing Physical Skills and Tactics
 
Through active engagement as performers, leaders, coaches, analysts, and planners, students gain an understanding of how to improve physical performance through the integration of theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
 
Sport Science supports the physical, social, and emotional development of students and equips them with skills applicable across various fields such as sport development, youth work, recreation, health, education, and medical sciences.
 
 
Outdoor Education – Year 10 Course Overview
 
The Outdoor Education course is a Year 10 pathway designed to introduce students to the foundational skills and knowledge aligned with the General and ATAR Outdoor Education Studies. The course consists of one practical and one theory lesson per week, providing students with a balanced experience of learning in both classroom and outdoor environments.
Students will engage in four key outcomes:
 
  • Outcome 1: Understanding the principles of outdoor education
  • Outcome 2: Developing skills for safe participation in outdoor activities
  • Outcome 3: Building an understanding of the environment
  • Outcome 4: Enhancing self-management and interpersonal skills in outdoor contexts
 
The course involves participation in a range of outdoor activities, possibly including bushwalking, mountain biking, rock climbing, surfing, fishing, snorkelling, paddling and orienteering, encouraging students to connect with the natural world.
 
Through these experiences, students develop a deeper understanding of their relationships with the environment, others, and themselves. Outdoor Education promotes essential life skills, physical activity competencies, and a positive relationship with nature. It also provides pathways to further study and careers in outdoor leadership, environmental management, eco-tourism, and related fields.
